Amazing Video Footage

22 07 2010

Recently we blogged about Apex’s Eric Alexander guiding blind climber Erik Weihenmayer to the summit of Alpamayo. Fortunately, the two climbers shot amazing footage during their ascent and summit.
The strength of human spirit to push past hardships and difficulties and achieve monumental objectives is nothing short of amazing.  This is an impressive example of a person willing to do whatever it takes, within a reasonable margin of safety, to be successful. Continued kodus go out to Erik and Eric from  Apex.

The video clip is called “Alpamayo blind.mov” and you can find it here – http://www.youtube.com/user/touchthetop#p/a/u/1/q8-Phm9kgGY

Millet Peuterey 35 LTDGear Review: Millet Peuterey 35 LTD

Description:

The Millet Peuterey 35 LTD is an all mountain bag for both the summer and winter use.   35 liters offers more than enough space for a day at the rock wall or even a full night’s ascent of a 14ern, complete with snow and ice.   The Free Flex Lit system ensures a comfortable fit, which bends and moves with your body’s motion.  The pack also includes Ice axe holders for ice climbing tools, and ski attachment straps for winter back country trips.  A gear loop is located on the waist belt for essential climbing gear, with a hip belt pocket for fast access to an energy bar or compass.

Initial impression:

At first glance, the bag looks rugged and is built with quality materials.  The use of heavy and durable nylon with a reinforced bottom will be great for all seasons and multi- uses.  The stitches are reinforced with extra material and all straps on the bag are built for abuse in mountains.

I loaded the bag with 35 pounds and I am impressed with the way it handle the load.  I felt very little pressure on my shoulders (with proper adjustment).  The Padding on the waist belt is thick enough to spread the pressure evenly across my waist but thin enough to not hinder with my body’s movement.  The 3d mesh up to this point has been quite comfortable and even keeps my back at a comfortable temperature in 85 degree weather with full sun high in the Rockies. The shoulder suspension’s system moves nicely on my test walks.  I am impressed with the quality and the build of the bag.  I like the cool graphics they have added on the back of the pack, more aesthetics than functional. The real test for me in my opinion will be using the bag all summer long on rock climbing trips, climbs of 14,000 foot mountains, and other excursions, but our first impression of this bag is that it is truly a climber’s backpack from a climber’s company.  We’ve purchased two of these for company guides and will provide an update of our lasting impression of the Millet Peuterey 35 LTD, post use.
